Stormwater Mitigation

Prevention
The City of Scottsbluff operates and maintains the Storm Drain System which serves the community.  The City's Storm Drainage System consists of over 2,000 inlets, miles of pipe, pump stations and detention basins.  Possibly the most important part of this system is the Scottsbluff Drain.  This artificial drainage is jointly operated between the City of Scottsbluff and Scotts Bluff County.  When it rains, the runoff flows through this system, and eventually discharges either directly to the North Platte River or to a pond adjacent to the river.

The City is required by the Environmental Protection Agency, as part of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), to have a Storm Water Management Plan (SWMP).  The purpose of the program is to limit to the Maximum Extent Practicable, the discharge of pollutants in the water of the United States.

For more information, please read the City of Scottsbluff's Stormwater Management Program.
