Youth Programs - Children
Preschool Story Time on Thursdays (September-May)
Preschool story times are from 10:00–10:30 and 6:15-6:45 every Thursday in the Lied Scottsbluff Public Library meeting room. Story time is geared primarily to children between 2 and 6 years of age. However, because the rate of growth and development varies greatly, we encourage parents to determine their child’s readiness for story time. No advance registration is necessary and there is no fee.
Summer Reading Program (annually)
The Children’s Summer Reading Program is held annually in June and July for children from birth through 6th grade. Each year, the library follows a national theme and creates innovative, educational and enlightening programs for children.
LEGO Club (monthly)
LEGO Club is held on the last Monday of each month at 6p.m. in the library meeting room. This club is geared for children ages 3-11. All children must be accompanied by a parent or adult. Registration is not required, and this is a free program for children.
“100 Best Books” Reading Wall for Children
The “100 Best Books” reading wall for children is to encourage young readers to read some amazingly well-written children’s books, as well as serve as an incentive to promote literacy and reading to children. Each reader who completes the “100 Best Books” reading list will receive either a “100 Best Books Champion Reader” bumper sticker or yard sign.
All Scottsbluff Kindergartners are given a personalized invitation to visit the library and sign up for their first library card. Youth staff give one-on-one tours and prizes to Kindergartners when they receive their library card. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian when registering for a library card.
Area teachers, early childhood educators, and homeschool instructors may notify the library of an upcoming unit on a topic, theme, or subject. Children's services staff will gather books, audiobooks, and DVDs for teachers to pick up. Submit a teacher tote form to firstname.lastname@example.org
The library hosts many special events for children, including but not limited to a special Halloween story time and an annual Christmas event. “Like” us on Facebook for special event announcements.
Youth Programs - Teen
Teen Advisory Council (TAC)
TAC is a hand-selected group of middle school and high school students who advise library staff on collection development, event planning, and providing services for local youth. TAC also advocates on behalf of the library to their peers.
MakerKids meet on Wednesday in March after school. They explore the library while using creativity and innovation to make, build, and invent.
Summer Reading Program (annual)
In June and July, the library hosts summer reading for teens and tweens sixth grade through high school. Each year, a nationally recognized theme guides the development of events and activities formed to encourage literacy and reading for teens.
