Architects to Unveil Library Design

The Leo A. Daly architectural team will unveil the revised design of the soon to be remodeled and expanded Scottsbluff Public Library at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday night, June 23, 2009. Major features of the design include a much larger children’s library, a separate Teen room, a Heritage Room, a quiet reading area, study rooms, enlarged meeting space and an outdoor classroom/learning garden. The library will be designed to LEED^TM specifications with the use of recycled materials and other energy efficiencies. Refreshments will be served. The public is encouraged to attend.

Summer Reading Programs

The children's and teens' Summer Reading Programs began Tuesday, June 2, 2009. Registration continues throughout the programs.

Library Building Program Fundraising

Help us improve the Library to better serve the Community. Please check our Building Fund page for more information.  A donor form can be filled in, printed out and mailed with your pledges and contributions. Beginning in 2004, the Scottsbluff Public Library Board and staff began to study the Library's space problem. For more information, please click on "Building Study" in the upper right corner of this page. Drawings and site plans from the Leo A. Daly architectural firm's feasibility study are available on our site.  The updated site plan shows the two-phased building program approved by the City Council in 2006.

Virginia Cassell's book "The Saga of the Dirty Thirties" is still available.  In her introduction Virginia explains the reason for the book. "We, the children of the Great Depression, now living in the Nebraska panhandle, wish to share our experiences that are etched in our memories like footprints in the drifting sand of the ‘Dirty Thirties’."  Virginia is donating profits from the sale of the book to the Scottsbluff Public Library Building Fund.  Please contact the Library (308-630-6250) if you would like to purchase a copy.

Book Clubs

• The Brown Bag Book Club meets the 3rd Wednesday of the month at noon in the Library meeting room.  Bring your lunch and discuss the month's selection.
• The Literary Reading Group meets the first Tuesday of the month.
• The library now has book packets for book clubs available for checkout.

Wireless Internet Access

The Library is now offering wireless Internet access for users with their own wireless-enabled equipment.

NebraskAccess

  NebraskAccess provides Nebraska citizens with free online access to thousands of current full-text magazines, journals, newspapers, business information and much more. The databases can be accessed at the library, or from your home or business using either your Nebraska driver's license (or Nebraska ID) number or a password.  You may obtain the password at the Library's Information Desk.  The Nebraska Library Commission purchases access to these resources with funding from the State of Nebraska.

Business Database

The library subscribes to the ReferenceUSA database which contains detailed information on more than 13 million U.S. businesses. Click here for the link to this database.

Internet Policy

 Anyone accessing the Internet via the Library's network is expected to comply with Scottsbluff Public Library's Internet Policy as written and adopted by the Library Board and approved by the Scottsbluff City Council.

Public Computers

You will need a LIBRARY CARD to use an Internet computer. If you don't already have one, sign up now.  There is no charge for a library card.

Online Renewals

If you would like to check your own library records, place holds or renew materials online, please bring your library card to the Information Desk and choose a PIN. Choose Catalog on the web page menu and then "My Account."
