Scottsbluff Public Library Building Study

Looking at the space needs of Scottsbluff Public Library

Beginning in 2004, the Scottsbluff Public Library Board and staff began to study the Library’s space problem, and have been keeping the Scottsbluff City Council advised of their findings. Public meetings were held in November of 2004 to gather public opinion regarding a building project. A link to the comments can be found below. The Leo A. Daly architectural firm from Omaha was hired to conduct a 90-day feasibility study of the present site and alternative sites for possible construction/expansion. The study included public meetings during February, March and April of 2005.

Space issues are restricting regular service, as well as the kinds of programs which the Library can offer. Surveys and focus groups will be used to determine if the Scottsbluff community wants additional services beyond those currently offered – services common to modern libraries. Additionally, the Board will look at comparable communities serving similar size populations. The most modern library standards available to us (ALA), will be applied to those findings so that Scottsbluff Public Library can be a vital part of the future growth and progress of our community.

Comments on the building study are welcome. Send comments to:
