CALENDAR OF EVENTS

TUESDAY, JUNE 2...REGISTRATION & CREATIVE CRAZINESS ...all ages... 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.….Library Meeting Room & Children’s Library

(REGISTRATION WILL CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER FOR THOSE UNABLE TO REGISTER ON JUNE 2nd.) It’s time to SET THE STAGE FOR READING!

Children of all ages are invited to be a part of the 2009 Be Creative @ Your Library Summer Reading Program at the Scottsbluff Public Library. This program is for children who are at least two years old, in kindergarten, or entering the first through sixth grade.  Each READING STAR who registers on June 2nd will get to play the SPIN & WIN game for Oscar-winning prizes; make a MASK craft project; receive a SUPERSTAR SLINKY & STICKER, and enjoy other FEATURED FUN adventures!

CHILDREN WHO READ 5 BOOKS WILL RECEIVE THESE REWARDS---

CHILDREN WHO READ 10 BOOKS WILL RECEIVE---

CHILDREN WHO READ 20 BOOKS WILL RECEIVE---

CHILDREN WHO GET INTO THE ACT AND CONTINUE READING BOOKS

    WILL RECEIVE ADDITIONAL BRAVO BUCKS TO SPEND.

THURSDAYS… FILMFESTS AND OTHER BLOCKBUSTER ACTIVITIES…Every Thursday, June 4 – July 16 (except June 25) 10:00-10:30 a.m. Library Meeting Room.

FILM BUFFS of all ages are invited to the meeting room for BIG SCREEN fun and BACKSTAGE action. Special prizes & programs will be FEATURED on selected Thursdays. It’s your TICKET TO ENTERTAINMENT!

TUESDAY, JUNE 9..ARTS ALIVE MORNING....all ages...10:00-10:45 a.m.

It’s time to LET US ENTERTAIN YOU in the library park with a PREMIERE Program. We will meet A CAST OF CHARACTERS and GET CREATIVE with skits, puppetry and other STAR-STUDDED performances. As an ENCORE, all our ROCKIN’ READERS will enjoy MOVIE treats (cookies and pop) donated by ARBY’S. All participants will also receive a BE CREATIVE @ YOUR LIBRARY door hanger to take home.

JUNE 9–25.. BE CREATIVE COLOR CONTEST / EXPRESS YOURSELF ART CONTEST

Here is your chance to IMAGINE, CREATE & PARTICIPATE! Pick up a BE CREATIVE color contest form (preschool - 2nd grade) or an EXPRESS YOURSELF contest form (3rd–6th grade) and GET JAZZED about art. Draw, create, color or decorate, and return your entry to the library on or before June 25th. Entries will be displayed, with winners announced and prizes awarded during film time on July 9th. All participants will receive a coupon for a deli sandwich, cookie, and drink, courtesy of SUBWAY following the judging.

TUESDAY, JUNE 16..CRITTER PREMIERE @ THE ZOO!..all ages…10:00 – 11:00 a.m.

GATES OPEN AT 9:30 a.m. (Free admission until 10:15-Children must be accompanied by an adult.)

ZOO STARS and much more await all who follow the RED CARPET to RIVERSIDE ZOO. From 10 to 11 a.m. there will be Learning Stations located CENTERSTAGE with mini programs at each site which SPOTLIGHT zoo characters. Children are invited to take part in art by bringing cameras or sketch pads to draw or photograph the zoo cast. All who attend will receive a zoo prize.

THURSDAY, JUNE 25..MIDWEST MOVIE PARTY…all ages ...10:00 - 11:30 a.m.

In order to attend the MIDWEST movie party, sponsored by REGIONAL WEST PHYSICIANS CLINIC FAMILY & INTERNAL MEDICINE, FRIENDS OF THE MIDWEST THEATER and the SCOTTSBLUFF PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION, you must have read at least five books and have received credit at the library. You will receive a TICKET from the library staff which must be presented at the Midwest Theater on June 25th to gain admittance. The movie "ALVIN & THE CHIPMUNKS" (rated PG) will be shown (subject to change). Children with tickets will be seated first. Adults may attend for $1.00. The theater will open at 9:30 a.m.

TUESDAY, JUNE 30… MUSIC IN THE AIR @ YOUR LIBRARY...all ages…. 10:00–10:45 a.m….Library Park

Don’t miss this SMASH HIT morning! TUNE UP FOR FUN with "To Create is Great" by Mr. Conrad’s Musicademy. This educational music program sponsored by the Panhandle Library System will explore the what, how, and why of creativity in a fun & interactive way.  All who attend will be treated to a TOP 40 pop ice, courtesy of K-MART.

TUESDAY, JULY 7…ART IN THE PARK … all ages 10:00 –10:45 a.m. .…Library Park

CURTAINS UP! Come enjoy the latest hit PLAY by Steve Viessman, "Carolina Courageous and the Book of Knowledge". Our cast of characters will embark on an Indiana Jones-type adventure. Then all theater-goers can join in the ARTS with face painting, sidewalk chalk art, bookmark design, creation of musical instruments and other projects, For the FINALE everyone will join in a MUSICAL PARADE and take home a BE CREATIVE @ YOUR LIBRARY pencil.

THURSDAY, JULY 16..PUPPET PERFORMANCE & WRAP UP CELEBRATION ... all ages….7:00 - 8:30 p.m….Midwest Theater

The whole family is invited to the HOTTEST SHOW IN TOWN, presented by Cloud of Dust Theater puppeteer, Bob Aiken, from Estes Park CO. Sponsored by SYLVAN LEARNING CENTER and WAL-MART, Aiken’s performance, "Puppet Variations" is sure to delight our READING STARS audience. Following the performance, we’ll announce the winner of the STAR JAR guessing contest and draw for prizes for those who read books from the RED CARPET READS display. Every child who attends will receive a BRAVO FOR READING bonus prize to take home. No reading requirement is necessary to attend and admission is free.

Each child who registers can guess the number of CELEBRITY candies in the STAR JAR. The winner will be announced on July 16 at the Puppet Performance and Wrap Up Celebration.

For every 5 books you read from the RED CARPET READS display, your name will go into a drawing to win PAPARAZZI prizes. Drawings will be held at the Puppet Performance and Wrap Up Celebration on July 16.

ATTENTION STUDENTS ENTERING 5TH OR 6TH GRADE – ASK ABOUT JOINING OUR "CUE CLUB"!

STEP INTO THE SPOTLIGHT @ YOUR LIBRARY!

Budding artists can express themselves with artwork, poetry, prose or songs and submit them for display at the library. Artists will receive bravo bucks to spend at the library concession stand.

CONCESSION STAND REWARDS

BRAVO BUCKS earned can be spent at the Library Concession Stand – shopping hours will be posted in the Juvenile Dept.
