Previous to the meeting Library Staff presented President Karon Harvey with a gift as a thank you for her years of service on the Library Board. Karon has served on the Board since 1974 although not continually. According to the Library Board’s By-laws, a member may only serve two consecutive full terms and so Karon retires from the Board this October after serving two full terms since 1996. Board members and library staff thanked her many years of service and dedication to the Scottsbluff Public Library. Board members assured her that she would be needed to assist as the capital campaign and library building project progress.
Teresa noted that circulation statistics were up somewhat for adult fiction. Bev said that the national trend, following several years of declining circulation, was to see circulation statistics on the rise.
Bev noted the large attendance statistics for Summer Reading Program events.
This is the 40th anniversary of the dedication of the library building. A birthday celebration and fundraiser will be held at the library on September 22 from 5-8:00 p.m. to acknowledge this. There will be entertainment, a paper back book sale, a bake sale, games and more with the proceeds going to the library building fund.
The library’s accreditation application was submitted to the Library Commission before September 1, 2006. We are waiting to hear back from the Commission.
Bev had a phone conference with Russ Hodge and John Massey last week to plan the capital campaign. Three receptions will be held by Foundation Board members in their home to recruit people for the capital campaign board as well as volunteers. The receptions are planned for October. The actual campaign kickoff is planned for January. Several ideas were shared for ways to raise funds. They included:
Karon informed the Board that Joy Carol will present a program on October 1, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. She will introduce her new book, The Fabric of Friendship. The profits from the sale of this book will go to the library building fund.
