(This column appeared in the June 3, 2007, Star-Herald)
It’s been a busy week so today’s article is short. Here are some new DVDs available at the Scottsbluff Public Library.
"When Tempers Flare: A Guide to Understanding and Managing Anger" explores why and how we experience anger and offers practical strategies for expressing anger in constructive, rather than destructive, ways.
"Footprints On Our Hearts: How to Cope After a Miscarriage, Stillbirth or Newborn Death" and "At a Loss For Words: How to Help Those You Care For After a Miscarriage, Stillbirth or Newborn Death". I hope these will reach help those who need them.
"Calming the Tempest: Helping the Explosive Child" provides parents, teachers, and caretakers with an awareness and overview of how to teach anger management skills at home and at school.
"Bullying: What Every Adult Needs to Know" educates adults about what bullying is, and what they can do to help the young people in their lives when bullying is a problem.
"Who Killed the Electric Car? A Lack of Consumer Confidence...Or Conspiracy?" The current cost of gasoline and the global warming issue make this a timely video to watch.
"The Dick Cavett Show: Hollywood Greats". Dick Cavett’s talent as an interviewer is evident in this DVD as he interviews such some of Hollywood’s greatest entertainers, including Groucho Marx, Fred Astaire, and Katherine Hepburn.
"The Best of the Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet". During the 1950s if your TV reception was as bad as my family’s was, you probably missed most of the "Ozzie and Harriett" shows. Now’s your chance to catch up and isn’t Ricky just so cute!
"Word Town, Basic English Vocabulary" ("Las Palabras del Pueblo, El Vocabulario Basico de Ingles/Español") Presents hundreds of common vocabulary words found within a typical town. (Presenta cientos de palabras cotidianas que se utilizan en un pueblo tipico.)
