A United Way Agency
History of Capstone
community
agencies that serve abused and neglected children have faced
steadily increasing caseloads in recent years. In response to this
trend, child advocacy centers began to emerge.
Children's advocacy centers began with a new approach to the
investigation of child abuse--a facility friendly and coordinates
the available community resources. The centers enhance existing
services to children and families by bringing together various
professionals in a multi-disciplinary team. This avoids duplication
of services and ensures that the children's needs come first.
Each
center reflects its own community and has its own unique
personality. Yet all centers offer an effective, coordinated team
to respond to cases of child abuse and englect.
In 1998,
Panhandle residents involved with child abuse and neglect began
meeting to discuss the concept of a child advocacy center for this
region.
Through
the efforts of many, this center is now a reality. The CAPstone
Center is a 501-C-3 non-profit organization supported by grants and
donations from the community. In addition to the CAPstone Center,
there are child advocacy centers in Omaha, Lincoln, Norfolk,
Kearney and Grand Island.
The
Center features state-of-the-art video equipment to ensure quality
recording of interviews. A medical examination room is equipped on
site, in addition to two interview rooms. There is also a reception
area and observation room.
