CERTIFIED POLICE PATROL OFFICERDescription:
The Scottsbluff Police Department, a Civil Service Department, is currently accepting applications for Certified Police Officer. We are seeking individuals with integrity who are committed to public service, dedicated and professional, with a willingness and compassion to work together with the citizens of Scottsbluff to maintain a healthy and safe community. Examination Procedure
WRITTEN EXAMINATION:
Only applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be allowed to take the examination, please call Human Resources to set up a testing time ASAP.
ORAL EXAMINATION:
The Oral Interviews will take place June 23, 2023. The interviews will be conducted at the Public Safety Building, 1801 Avenue B, Scottsbluff, Nebraska. The oral interview board will be made up of the Police Chief, the Human Resources Director and members of the Civil Service Commission.
PHYSICAL AGILITY TEST:
Waived for Certified Officers.

RECORD TECHNICIAN - POLICE
Description of the Job:The job of Record Technician involves a variety of skilled work involving maintenance of the police record system for the Police Department, and clerical support for the Police Chief and other personnel in the Police Department. A Record Technician will handle direct service to the general public and to other law enforcement agencies with regard to questions involving police activities and police records. This position may receive assignments from the Police Chief, a Police Captain, or a Police Sergeant. Direct supervision is provided by the Administrative Support Services Captain.
Essential Functions of the Job:
Accurately enter all information regarding police incidents and activities into the police computer system;
Assist in the compilation of statistical data for inclusion or submission to department personnel and government entities, as needed;
Respond to requests for information from other law enforcement agencies on the local, County, State or Federal level;
Provide clerical support including typing of memos, police reports, correspondence or special reports for the Police Chief or other police personnel as requested;
Provide information and assistance to the public in person and over the phone;
Become knowledgeable on all department and City policies and regulations;
Assist in facilitating the use, distribution and notification process for work schedules and court notices;
Process incoming and outgoing mail for the department;
Prepare notices for City, County, District, and Federal Court as directed;
Provide copies of accident reports to insurance companies and the general public;
Assist Police Officers and other staff members in the retrieval of records, information and reports;
Operate a department vehicle occasionally in support of the Police Department;
Attend in-service and specialized training sessions;
Become familiar with court decisions which affect the police record function;
Provide back up support for co-workers and other police staff as needed;
Regular attendance and punctuality required;
Assist with related duties in cooperation with any division or department as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to maintain confidentiality of work related information in a professional manner;
Ability to type with high degree of accuracy;
Must be detailed oriented;
Ability to work alone with minimum supervision;
Ability to deal in a positive manner with the general public, City employees, and officials from other law enforcement agencies;
Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations;
Ability to learn complex filing systems required for police records;
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
Ability to perform repetitive motion tasks; sit, talk, hear, reach with hands and arms, use fingers to handle objects, and occasionally have the ability to stand, crouch, stoop, bend, and life or move 20 pounds by self;
Ability to work well with other as a team player.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school graduate or equivalent;
Strong knowledge of and skill in the use of modern office practices, including the use of personal computer (PC), Microsoft word, excel and database management ;
Valid Driver’s license with good driving record;
Dependability required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Completion of business and secretarial course including computer science courses at a post high
school institution.

SCHOOL CROSSING GUARD
(Part-time/Seasonal)
City of Scottsbluff Police Department, is accepting applications for School Crossing Guard.
Applications will be accepted until position is filled.
Description of the Job:
The job of School Crossing Guard shall include supervising the safe crossing of pedestrians, children in particular, at crossing locations clearly marked as such and established by law. This is a part time job which lasts only while public schools are in session. This position is supervised by the Police Support Services Captain.
Essential Functions of the Job:
Assist children in crossing busy intersections on the way to and from school;
Give pedestrians verbal instructions regarding waiting for the School Crossing Guard and
crossing properly;
Be on duty as directed during hours when school is in session;
Observe and report accidents and conditions that are detrimental to safety of motorists or pedestrians, including violations of traffic laws and regulations;
Prevent pedestrians from committing unsafe and unlawful acts;
Inform motorists, through appropriate signals, that pedestrians are using, or about to use, the crosswalk and have the right to proceed;
Encourage patterns of safe behavior by pedestrians when crossing and traffic way;
Assist department in traffic counts when requested;
Assist the Police Department with traffic control, i.e. parades, when needed;
Regular attendance and punctuality required.

Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Ability to relate well to children.
Ability to communicate with children and the public effectively and in a positive manor.
Must be dependable.
Ability to think and move quickly.
Ability to provide verbal direction to pedestrians.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to see, hear, talk, walk, stand, kneel and bend.
Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
Hourly Salary: $15.00
